Making History-A day in Villa Grande! Today! May 29th–see below for details!

Over a hundred years ago the redwood trees of Mesa Grande fell, and the village of Villa Grande sprang from the clearing.     Friends of Villa Grande is now planning a Day of History on Sunday, May 29, 2011 where you can take part in creating historical documents, enjoy a tour of some of the unique architecture of Villa Grande, and finish the afternoon with a cocktail party at the Old Hotel.

1-3pm:  Making History Center (Free entry)

21865 Russian River Avenue  (corner of 3rd Street)

This home will be the site for viewing oral histories and archival documents. Russian River Historical Society will show some photographs it has collected, and give you an opportunity to share your own stories or have your family’s photographs digitized.    We will also launch the “Architecture of Villa Grande” history and photographic database.   Tickets for the walking tour and cocktail party will be available at the Making History Center.

3-5 pm:    Walking Tour of Villa Grande

Primarily a self-guided tour, docents and owners will be available at several sites to explain the history of the area, including stories of the narrow and wide gauge railroad,  tent  and cabin living at the turn of the century,  and stories of the old General Store.

4-7pm:    Cocktail Party and Silent Auction at the Old Hotel.

In the early 1900‘s visitors would arrive by train and come to the Old Hotel for their nightly meals.   Come see some of the original guest rooms.   Ghosts of past Villa Grande residents will be on hand to serve and entertain.

Reservations:  $15 in advance;   $20 at the door includes tour & no-host cocktail party:    www.villagrande.org/FOVG/Events

or contact:    friends@villagrande.org  415.282.1800

This event is a fundraiser for the Friends of Villa Grande, a 501(c )(3) non-profit organization (Tax ID: 64-0964108) dedicated to restore and maintain Patterson Point Preserve and the history of Villa Grande.

  • I have to express my appreciation for you for bailing me from this type of challenge. After surfing through the internet and meeting views which were not helpful, I believed my whole life was gone. Living without the answers to the issues you’ve fixed out through your posting can be a serious case, as well as people who may have badly affected my career if i had not come across the blog. Your mastery and kindness in dealing with lots of things was important. I am not guaranteed what I would’ve done basically had not come upon such a solution like this. I am able to at this point relish my future. Thanks very much for ones high quality and effect oriented help. I will not become reluctant to propose the website to any individual whose ambition is and needs guide within this subject.
